- Where a Council is arranging a funeral under s.46 Public Health Act 1984, it will often need to notify the deceased person’s next of kin so that they can attend the funeral if they wish and, ideally, take on the funeral arrangements themselves, taking the funeral out of s.46 with the cost savings to the Council. Where the next of kin is partially or completely unknown, or where there is doubt, our role is to identify and locate the family members and support them through the process. - Where a Council’s Adult Social Care / Appointeeship & Deputyship Team has been looking after the financial affairs of their client u and their client passes away, the Council will need to pay across any remaining funds to the deceased client’s executors or next of kin as the case may be. Where the executors or next of kin are unknown or where there is doubt, our role is to identify and locate them and support them through the process, ensuring the Council is paying the funds across to only the correct people and indemnifying the Council accordingly. - Where a Council’s Private Sector Housing Team is working to Bring Empty Homes Back Into Use it will need to engage with the owners of the Empty Homes. Where the owners’ whereabouts is unknown, our role is to locate them and notify the Council of their whereabouts. Where the owner of an empty property has passed away, we locate their executors or next of kin as the case may be so that the property can go through probate and be Brought Back Into Use.
